Interfaced - the trials of the computer age, part two

....
Well, it did it again. This after having had another fan added and the case closed up (I sort of hate running closed-case, it makes it a stone-bitch to get to the innards if I need to upgrade, but the ventilation /does/ tend to work better with the side panels on..)

So we replaced the CPU chip.
Now it's working, after a hiccup with the BSoD (tm) - and /maybe/, just /maybe/, I can get back into stuff. Here's hoping, anyway.

The Great Hound Project is roaring away - Mom and Ladd just got home today with Shadi (Eshad el Durani, FCh, bla, blah, blah...) the first of /three/ affies. He is a six year old racing/coursing champ from a famous German kennel (Can't get 'em here, apparently... probably 'cause no one here cares much about field-testing their affies) they scored for peanuts. He looks like a nice hound - he's settling in very nicely so far (Although he's terrified Fetish already - the other two are lurking about in my room...) having decided it's a good idea to settle himself on the couch.
He came in, sniffed everything on the ground floor over, discovered the couch and after a moment of thought, made himself comfortable. Fortunately, animals are allowed on the furniture in this house.
Next week, it's the bitch puppies - and things will go cheerfully apeshit. *sigh* Oh well. At least while it's going apeshit, I don't have to /help/. I hope.

Not a hell of a lot else going on - aside from the car breaking down, /again/. This time, it popped the oil filter. No one noticed this (Even though it popped it /right/ in the driveway, and spewed pretty much all the oil out on the spot... this was not noticed. Oops.), and the ending result was that Andi wound up broken down on Hendricks Road. (He'd been on his way to Portland. *sigh*)
They got it dragged back, and Ladd says he'll have a look when he gets a chance, but no one really has any hopeful thoughts about it being fixable. Oh, there's a chance, but it's damn unlikely.
We're waiting for the third child of trouble. O.o

Interfaced - the trails of the computer age

Don't you /hate/ it when something happens that cuts you off from the net without warning?
Over the weekend, first - the graphics card in my machine started overheating and crashing my comp. Okay. I'm down 'til Monday. Monday, we get a new card, install it and get it working.
THEN, some asshole takes out a power-line down the road a ways, and power's out until three in the @#$&! morning. *sigh* Okay. Get that straightened out - and discover, come morning, that the power-surges have knocked out the cable modem. *grump*
Okay, fine - get that replaced and working and put back together.

Then we discover, after a bit more moving of things, that Banshee's basically bitten it. *sigh* Okay - move Merroune over and de-commission Banshee (something we'd been planning on doing anyway, ever since Scarlet went up to handle the routing and fire-wall duties...) and pack her up and put her away. And then we find that the UPS that Banshee was supposedly plugged into was TU. o.O!!

Oii.. Well, a few good things /did/ come of all this. First, Andi managed to get the laser printer up and running - a thing that had been tried before and given up on in disgust. Second, I'm running with the new graphics card - and /hopefully/ - there will be no more weird crashes.

Other good news - I /finally/ got the bloody acceptance letter from PCC. I'm in - now all I have to do is go down and take their bloody placement test to see how far behind I am. *grump* Gonna be interesting...

I have the backlog from hell to link and upload - and /scan/ - and haven't got to it yet. *sigh* damnit, I have too #@$% many projects..
