Of a new toy!

Eeeee!
I'm liking this thing already - nevermind that the keyboard is a little weird, it's not set up that much differently from a big one as far as the letters are concerned and I'm not having as much trouble getting used to it as I was afraid I might ... ^^

I'll be glad to be able to use Firefox and Thunderbird though - I do /not/ like IEvil and I refuse pointblank to even initialise Outlook.

Most everyone I know who own laptops have Dell or something - mine's an Acer. It doesn't weigh much, and there ain't a hell of a lot to it, just to look at it - it's a thin silver rectangle. Heh. But it's got a DVD writer and some other goodies that I need. RAM ain't what I'd /want/, but it'll support a gig of RAM (my minimum requirement.. I'd take /two/, if I thought the machine wouldn't boggle at having that much memory available...)

It will have to be reloaded, since it came with XPHome on it. I'll con Andi into putting XP Pro on it over the weekend. ^^

In general though ... EEEEEeee!!! *boingboingboingboingoboing* ^^

Oh. This worries me. ^^

Of nothing in particular...

Except perhaps for exactly how far you can shake garlic butter out of a supposedly closed container... you ever notice that? I got most of it right in the face, like some kind of culinary bukkake. The rest went all over the counter, the floor and I even managed to splooge the 'fridge... and it needed more garlic.

I remedied that after I got it all cleaned up, of course.
Mental note. BOTH hands on the plastic container when shaking!

And you /really/ needed that mental pic, right? ^.~

There's not really been a hell of a lot going on. My first serious essay in writing got a C+ - not the best, but not the worst either. I figure I'll do better next time. ^^
Art's been interesting - we've been doing perspective in Basic Design - I have some /really/ interesting drawings from that.
Drawing he's had us doing boxes - we actually got boxes with ROUND THINGS on them last week and he says he's going to give us fabric this week. Ooh. ^^
Comp Basics ... well. *wry grin* The last couple of classes I've basically been doing writing homework and helping the guy next to me - I finished the whole bloody Word module last Tuesday. The rest of the class is still working on it..... O.o
I'm thinkin' there's not only some issues with remembering this stuff but with comprehending the instructions. O_O
>.< *sigh* I'm sure it will get harder as the class progresses - but so far, my score in there is /perfect/. So far. ^.~

An interesting thing to note - Lutra and I got the exact same results.

Oh! I'm getting a laptop. No more sharing comps with Andi.. ^^
Originally, it was Andi who was getting a laptop, but even his minimum requirements put a laptop well out of budget. So I offhandedly say, "We could do it the other way 'round, yanno" .. and before you could say, "Eureka!" he's researching laptops with /my/ minimum requirements! ... much more affordable. So, I'm getting a laptop. Should be here by Monday. ^^

Of working hardware and some oddments of miscellany

Yeh, I get those once in a while ..
Anyway. The working hardware is the scanner - the new PS arrived today and I plugged it in and, voila! it works!! YAY!!!
We're pleased. Anyway.

Of dinner and a good day out ...

Might as well start with the day. ^^

There was some stuff we needed in Town, so we headed out - first to PetCo in Tiger, to get the Omen-cat a harness (to put his tag on) and some kitty toys for both of them and then to Freddies to pick up some other oddments. And see if they had boots I deem 'acceptable' - mine were, by then, beginning to go south.
No boots. I could not /believe/ what they had that seemed to be 'good'. The /best/ pair they had was a pair of hiking boots... but, they didn't seem to have 'em in my size. (I have small feet. I wear, on average, a 5-5 1/2-6. No beans. Okay. So we get out of Freddies with the detergent we'd gone in for (Unscented, no dyes or anything) and headed up into City. We went to the mall and poked around for a bit, and I expressed considerable disgust at what appears to have become fashionable since I was last paying attention. I wear boots out of habit and they have at least come back into fashion. But! Yes, that's a large 'but' right there. But, they are really, to my mind, not effective! If they don't have two to three inch heels, they are 'fur'-lined and have cutesy 'fur' trim. In a word, no. In two words, /hell/ no!.
Finally, I discovered boots I can live with. They're thick-soled clunkers, but they are not cute and they are not high-heeled or 'fur' trimmed. I also found some very nice black leather boots that will be /very/ nice as 'dress' boots (it should be telling I found this in an 'unfashionable' shoe-store).
Mission accomplished. We made a fast stop in Fredricks for unmentionables that /fit/, and then back down to downtown to the ArtMedia store - to pick up some sketchpads and vine charcoal.
*/sigh/*. 18x24 sketchpads come in two sizes. Too fucking much and not enough. So we got a pair of cheap pads. I also got one of those artist's manikins - it's about six inches tall, bipedal - for not too much. I was tempted by the origami paper, but I did not succumb. ^.~

Then back home, to stow the loot and put Omen's harness on him. Of all the cats I've put harnesses on, he's gotten used to it the fastest and with the least fuss. While he did back himself across the room trying to get out of it, there was none of the thrashing about on the floor hysterics that KC entertained me with when I first harnessed him. ^^
Then I gave them the kitty toys. We got them a fur-mouse and a little 'pillow' full of catnip. .. KC found the 'pillow' and immediately began to maul it. He really gets into his catnip and he was having a ball with that thing, thrashing around, kicking it, flinging it about and holding it down to be chewed on. ^^
Then, since neither of us felt like cooking and both of us were heartily sick of Sink Soup, we went out to eat.
We hit The Melting Pot, a fondue place in City.
... I wanna go back. It was /really/ good. We had four courses - cheese with bread, apples and vegetables to dip in it, salad, entree - which for us was seafood (salmon, scallops and shrimp), chicken and steak (the alternative involved lobster, and I'm not keen on lobster, although I'll eat shrimp) which we impaled and boiled to a fare-thee-well in coq au vin stuff.
Then, dessert. Cheesecake, fruit, poundcake, brownies and marshmallows to dip in chocolate. Yumyumyumyum... The dessert plate was the /only/ one that was completely empty by the time we were done.
It weren't cheap - we aren't doing that more than once every three to four months, if that, but ... yumyumyumyum... ^.^

It was a success. ^.~

Of being settled and adventures in cooking..

When I look around and the living/dining room looks more familiar than my old room back at the house, I know I've settled in. ^^
Of course, the cupboards still look a little odd, but I'm sure that can be fixed in time... ^.~

I tell you what though - I have evening classes three days out of seven. Andi isn't back until ten on said days, at least as a rule. So, it's crock-pot special for three days in every week. Generally, the same thing three days in a row.... you cannot do a milk-based soup in a crockpot. Well, you /can/, but the milk seperates and it looks funny. Tastes alright, though. ^^

I discovered this doing leek and potato soup - I added some 'summer' sausage and cauliflour to it 'cause I happened to have some to hand. Tastes fine. Looks funny. Heh.

Not sure what I'm gonna do next week - bits and pieces soup, maybe... (I know someone else calls that 'sink' soup. It'll depend on what bits and pieces I have available.. ^.~)

Classes so far have been interesting - the only thing I'm bored out of my gourd in is Comp Basics and that only until we hit the stuff I don't know. Until then I will probably find myself helping out the poor sod who sits next to me. I've been there. I had to learn it the hard way. :/

I'm enjoying Writing a lot - one'd say it isn't showing much, but we haven't gotten much farther than recognising the problem and figuring out what to do 'bout it.

The Design class, we have solved the mystery of the collage - I'm still transferring the tracing to clean paper and trying to 'fill in the blanks' where I thought I'd traced some details but actually didn't... this happens a lot, s'why I am not keen on tracing anything, the whole 'copying' thing aside...

Drawing I won't know much about 'til we get to the next class - I could wish I had that one twice a week instead of CompBasics.. ^^

Snagged this out of Joules' blog.
